When cycling through the vineyards of Piedmont, the most common mistake is improvising.

The hills between Roero, Langhe and Monferrato are not extreme, but they need to be understood.
The real difference is made by the route you choose.
If you stay in Govone, you have a major advantage: you can start directly from the accommodation and create loop rides without moving your car.
Here you will find 5 different itineraries, varying in distance, elevation and atmosphere.
Gentle Loop in Roero – 30 km
Suitable for: first day, couples, e-bike
Elevation gain: low
Roads: paved secondary roads
This is the ride I recommend to start with.
Roero offers harmonious hills and almost no traffic.
The climbs are progressive, never abrupt.
You pass through small villages and neat vineyards, returning to Govone without demanding sections.
It is a route that helps you understand the rhythm of the territory.

Govone – Alba Scenic Rolling Route – 45 km
Suitable for: cyclists with basic training
Elevation gain: medium
Highlight: panoramic views over the Langhe
This itinerary connects Govone to Alba through a network of secondary roads.
The route alternates steady climbs with smooth descents.
As you approach the Langhe, the landscape becomes wider and more scenic.
Perfect for those who want to combine cycling with a food stop.

Roero and Monferrato Loop During Harvest Season – 38 km
Suitable for: late summer and autumn
Elevation gain: gentle
Character: scenic
Between September and October, this is one of the most evocative routes.
The vineyards change colour, work in the fields becomes visible and the atmosphere is completely different from spring.
It is not the most technical ride, but it offers the most memorable views.

Langhe Loop with Steeper Climbs – 55 km
Suitable for: trained MTB cyclists
Elevation gain: more demanding than the others
Scenery: panoramic
Here the hills become more pronounced.
The climbs are longer and require good pace management.
In return, you get wide views over the Langhe hills.
I always recommend starting in the morning, especially in the warmer months.

Slow Route Among Vineyards and Hazelnut Groves – 28 km
Suitable for: those seeking tranquility
Elevation gain: moderate
Duration: half day
This itinerary is less visible on tourist maps.
It crosses more rural areas, alternating vineyards and hazelnut groves, with very quiet stretches.
Ideal for a recovery day or for those who want to ride without rush.

Which Route Should You Choose?
When I speak with guests, the choice always starts with a few questions:
- What is your ideal distance?
- Do you have a road bike or an e-bike?
- Are you looking for scenery or training?
- Would you like to include a winery stop?
There is no absolute best route.
There is the route that best fits the day.
Between Roero, Langhe and Monferrato, the variety allows you to alternate gentle and more structured rides without ever repeating the same landscape.
